Senegal AFCON champions for the first time

Itahari : Senegal has became the champions of the African Cup Of Nations (AFCON) for the first time after beating Egypt on penalty shootout.

Senegal had a chance to open the scoring on 6th minute of the game as they were awarded a penalty but Mane was unable to convert the spot kick which resulted a goalless draw till the regular 90 minutes.

There was no separating the sides even in extra-time hence the winner were to be determined by penalty shootout.

Senegal were clinical in their spot kick as they score all 4 of their kicks but on the other hand Egypt missed to convert their two spot kicks which resulted in Senegal's 4-2 victory over Egypt and crowning them the AFCON title for the first time. 

Well known name of Egypt's National Team Mohammad Salah didn't get a chance in the penalty shootout as he was placed as a last penalty kicker. Jamie Carragher has slammed Egypt's this decision to leave Mohamed Salah to be the fifth penalty taker during the shoot out.

Sharing his thoughts on Twitter, Carragher said: 'That is why your best penalty taker should never go fifth. Mo Salah not taking a penalty for Egypt in a shootout in a final is madness. Also happened to Ronaldo years ago for Portugal v Spain.'
