IPL 2021 SUSPENDED INDEFINITELY BY THE BCCI

Itahari, Due to the recent outbreak of COVID-19 cases across franchises over the past couple of days, BCCI has decided to suspend the ongoing 2021 IPL season indefinitely. As things stand, members of four franchises have been confirmed to have tested positive. Among them are Wriddhiman Saha from Sunrisers Hyderabad, Amit Mishra from Delhi Capitals, L Balaji- member of CSK service staff, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier from KKR.

BCCI said in their statement, “The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organizing the IPL. This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and well-being of all the stakeholders in mind. These are difficult times, especially in India and while we have tried to bring in some positivity and cheer, however, it is imperative that the tournament is now suspended and everyone goes back to their families and loved ones in these trying times. The BCCI will do everything in its powers to arrange for the secure and safe passage of all the participants in IPL 2021.”

Previously, Ravi Chandra Ashwin of Delhi Capitals had announced his decision to take a break from IPL 2021 citing the need to be with his family during the COVID-19 pandemic following Delhi Capitals’ victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad on 25th of April, 2021.
